Most AtlĂ©tico fans will be worrying about Falcao’s future but Diego’s future is also on their minds. The Brazilian midfielder is coming to the end of his successful loan spell. One criticism of the deal to bring the play-maker to Atleti was that fact that the club did not insert a clause to buy the player at the end of the loan deal but the fact that he was even signed was a miracle as the clubs broke off negotiations a number of times. His Wolfsburg Coach Felix Magath has said that he can see the player playing for the German club again adding ‘Getting Diego back is a priority and there will be no problem in doing it’. Magath and Diego infamously clashed when the player refused to sit on the bench in an important relegation clash leaving the German side with only 6 subs as he walked out of the ground. This may be a ploy by the German’s who have seen Diego’s value go up with some fine displays this year and should they admit he has no future his transfer fee would plummet. The Brazilian has one year left on his deal with Wolfsburg.

A few weeks ago MadridAtleticos spoke to Atleti B Coach Milinko Pantic. In that interview the former player admitted that his future was uncertain at AtlĂ©tico. Today he confirmed that he would not be continuing when his contract was finished in June. He also had a parting shot at Simeone saying ‘From the first day El Cholo put a lot of distance between us. We have not spoken a lot. I thought it would be different to that’. One thing that Pantic spoke about in his interview with us was the importance of patience and belief in the Cantera project, a project that he believes is the future for many clubs as they battle with their current financial difficulties. But can AtlĂ©tico develop a good Cantera if they keep changing the coaching staff?

The clock had barely ticked over to a new day when the rumours started to spread. In fact they had started the week before when a journalist from El País advised Atlético supporters to enjoy Falcao now as he would be gone at the end of the season. All season fans had been expecting these conversations but had hoped they would never materialise. There was never any doubt that should Atlético fail to get Champions League football that many key players would see their futures in the air. On Sunday they failed their season’s objective and the future of those key players is rife with speculation.

Vicente Del Bosque announced a provisional squad of 22 for two friendlies before the European Championships kick off in June. In that squad Juanfran, Adrán and surprisingly Domínguez have been included in the squad. It must be stressed that this is not the confirmed squad that will go to the Euros and also the squad has no players from Barca, Athletic or Chelsea who are all involved in Champions League or Copa Del Rey duty and will not be able to join up with the squad until later.

As it turned out, victory at LeganĂ©s would’ve meant Atleti B moving into that elusive fourth spot and going into today’s draw for the promotion play-offs, but it wasn’t to be. Albacete and Oviedo both lost their games and with our excellent away record coupled with LeganĂ©s poor form, the chance was there to be taken, but a crashing 5-2 defeat and possibly our team’s most disappointing performance of the season saw the dream end for good.
